Brown's Field Swap, Collect and Fix-Fest (East Chesterton)

East Chesterton! Bring us your faulty, torn, wobbly and unwanted items
and for a huge swap, collect and fix fest.

Highlights include Brown’s Field’s first Repair Café at which experienced repairers will fix your stuff for free, a ‘Give-and-Take Stall’ to drop off and take away household items and a Clothes Swap Corner where pre-loved clothes can be swapped for ones that are new to you.

In addition, the Community Engagement Team will be collecting bulky items for residents requiring additional support and Veolia will be providing skips and bins for everyone to help them dispose of items and recycle with ease. There’ll also be a wonderful café and short film screenings. All the events and activities in this fabulous venue are free.

The schedule

Repair Café 11am – 2pm

Repair Cafes match experienced repairers with people who need stuff fixing. You can pick up repair skills and bring along the following to be repaired: small household appliances and electrical items, computers, books, mobile phones, bicycles, clothes and general bits n bobs. Booking is recommended, please book an item in by emailing: cambridgerepaircafe@gmail.com and writing Brown’s Field in the subject line or use the online booking form here. Please tell us what the item is and give a brief description of the fault. You can turn up on the day but may have to wait. Repairs are free of charge.

Recycling and disposal area open 11am – 2:00pm

Bring your unwanted stuff to Brown’s Field Youth and Community Centre. Veolia staff will be on hand to help you with your large household items, electricals, furniture, toys, worn out clothes, organic waste, metal items etc (no oils, paints, hazardous waste please). Unwanted items in good condition can be donated to the Give-and-Take Stall and you’ll be free to take items that take your fancy.

Bulky waste collection by the City Council’s Community Engagement Team 10am – 1:30pm

Residents local to Brown’s FIeld who would struggle to remove bulky items from their property can make an appointment for the City Council’s Community Engagement Team to collect a maximum of two items. Call 01223 301842 to book a collection slot (last booking will be taken 13/2/2019). First come, first served and please note items must be left out for collection as collectors cannot enter homes.

Giving, taking and swapping 11am – 2pm

Clothes Swap Corner: please bring along unwanted, clean clothes and accessories that are in good condition. The idea is to leave what you can and take what you fancy! Women’s and children’s clothes only.

Brown’s Field Toy Library: we hope that the container will be open on the day for all to find out about how to keep updating your toy supply without the waste or the cost.

Give-and-Take Stall: Recycling Champions will be operating an area to which people can bring and take away any unwanted, clean and working household and garden items.

Screenings of short films in the ‘Story of Stuff’ series 12:30pm – 2:00pm

We’ll be screening short animated films that look at the impact of our stuff and what solutions are out there.
