Cottenham Repair Cafe - SORRY, POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

Description

IMPORTANT NOTICE

THE ORGANISERS ARE SORRY TO ANNOUNCE THAT THE COTTENHAM REPAIR CAFE HAS BEEN POSTPONED. SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE AND DISAPPOINTMENT. SEE THIS PAGE FOR A NEW DATE ONCE KNOWN.

If you have something that’s broken, or needs adjusting or sharpening, why not bring it along to the Repair Café at the Cottenham Community Centre? We repair all kinds of things – from bikes to toasters to baby buggies, radios, computers, printers, ornaments – almost anything you can carry, in fact! We like to show you how we do it, so that if it happens again, you can do it yourself. Both repairers and repairees have a very enjoyable and rewarding time.

Cottenham’s Repair Cafés have been running for several years, and are now established as the village’s favourite way to get everyday items fixed.

If you’re a whiz at repairing things, and can spare a few hours on the day, come along as a repairer – show what you can do, and learn new repair techniques from other repairers. We have a very comprehensive toolkit and supply of consumables, donated by Draper Tools and Mackays of Cambridge, so you don’t even need to bring your own tools, unless you want to!

Booking is recommended, but not essential. If you can let us know ahead of time what you plan to bring, and what the problem is, it will increase the chances of us having the correct tools and spares. Book via Cottenham’s eventbrite page to let us know you’re coming, and then please send an email to cottenham@repaircafe.org.uk, telling us what you’re planning to bring for repair – or if you’re a repairer, the kinds of things you’re good at fixing.

We look forward to seeing you there!

FAQs

What can/can’t I bring to the event?

Absolutely anything you can carry! (We don’t promise we can repair it, of course.)

Is it essential to book beforehand?

No, you can just turn up. You may have to wait, but the cafe is excellent, while you’re waiting!

However, it’s really helpful to let us know in advance what you’re bringing, and what the problem is, in case we need to bring special tools or spares, or if we know that it’s unlikely we can fix it we can let you know.

Is there any restriction on what you will tackle?

In fairness to everyone who’s waiting, we limit ourselves to 20-30mins per item, which means we can only do very limited things to Apple products, laptops, digital cameras – but if it’s something simple, you might be lucky…..

We do ask that what you bring is reasonably clean, so that working on it isn’t too unpleasant! For example, please empty hoovers.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Ideally we’d love you to walk or cycle to the event, as we are all trying to reduce our carbon footprints after all! If you don’t live in the village, check www.circularcambridge.org to see if there is another Repair Cafe coming up near you – there are lots in Cambridgeshire! The Citi8 bus service from Cambridge stops in the village. Please note that there is no parking at the Community Centre. If you can, please park elsewhere in the village, and hand-carry your item to us.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Call 07801 719823, or email cottenham@repaircafe.org.uk.

Can I make a donation?

If you are pleased with the result, you can make a small donation. This helps to pay for any spares used in the repair, and also pays for a cup of coffee for the repairer. Any profit goes to the Community Centre.

Can I bring more than one thing?

Yes, but if we’re busy, we’ll make you go to the back of the queue with the second item.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, this isn’t important.
