Zero Carbon Britain: Making It Happen

Currently the UK has no roadmap for meeting its carbon reduction targets. There is a lack of understanding and co-ordination between government, business and society as to how, when and who is required to do what. So far our response does not reflect the scale of the threat outlined by the science. But the solutions, technology and vision are out there and captured in the brand new research report ‘Zero Carbon Britain: Making It Happen’. Paul Allen, the Centre for Alternative Technology’s researcher, campaigner and author of the report will join us in Cambridge to share its findings, and work with attendees to consider how the learning and case studies might be relevant to our city. You can view a draft of the report at http://zerocarbonbritain.org/. You can also read a recent blog post on the report.

Paul Allen, Cambridge Carbon Footprint and Pivotal would like to invite community and voluntary sector groups, as well as academics, professionals and students from the fields of psychology, geography, social sciences, politics, science, history, economics, arts and culture to come together to hear the report findings and share their own expertise and ideas. Attendees will be asked to reflect on the report and think together in small multi-disciplinary groups – a recognition of the fact that changing how we live and reshaping the forces that shape our lives, will require a shift at every level.

Key findings from the discussion groups will be captured and shared with the new Mayor, City Council, local universities and community groups.
