A MURDER OF CROWS – A CONSPIRACY OF RAVENS
What I’m after is the essence, the very presence, of a crow I’m not so much after a likeness. To produce a sudden proximity of what a crow or raven is to me through either a painted or an etched illusion.

Crow was so much blacker
Than the moon’s shadows
He had stars
(Ted Hughes)

An apparition – imagine a murder of crows suddenly manifesting themselves in the gallery – how dramatic, alarming and life affirming that would be. CROWS…RAVENS are my metaphor: gracing the skies, speeding towards prey, mating for life, fighting for existence and constantly adapting themselves to live in an unstable environment created by humans.

Unclipped, unchipped, ring-free
The Ravens head out on sky-roads
Laid down in colours we cannot see
Towards whatever this day’s weather bodes
(Steve Logan)

They can do something I cannot – they can FLY – they are mystical spiritual beings. When I come back I want to be a crow……or maybe a raven.

No bird soars too high, if he soars with his own wings
(William Blake)

My work is deeply autobiographical – dream images – events in my life.

The painting I’M FREE is a new work undertaken for an exhibition in the Undercroft Gallery in Norwich.

The bags are sourced from a local cafe and the paint is also recycled. She wanted to put back the fun into art.
